One of the most amazing pieces of writing I've come across. Her analysis of different views of gender from the perspective of right versus left is truly non-partisan. I believe that she is dead on and really has a profound understanding of all the issues revolving around gender in our society.

Taking a look at her profile, it turns out she is a member of "Vast. Right. Winged., " a blog of Yale's Free Press. The whole project exists to give Yale conservatives a voice.

First off, I've really come to LOVE this blog! It is incredibly insightful and I haven't found many like it.

Well, the discussion regarding Moussaoui really got me thinking. The more I think about the whole situation, the more I'm inclined to believe that there is going to be a lot more to the story in the weeks, months, and years to come.

I hate to say this, but something reeks. I'm just hoping that we can prevent any future terrorists attacks.

A Thousand Words: Censorship

A poignant discussion of censorship in schools. As a child, I often wondered why my rights were limited simply due to age. Nobody ever even brings up this issue, especially as it relates to schools. I am sick and tired of schools trying to parent their students. For example, Bay City Central High School will remove all of its pop machines next year due to the fact that pop is detrimental to the health of its students.

There are several things I find wrong with this:

1.) The school is removing a source of revenue during a time of financial hardship.
2.) There is a 7-Eleven right down the street from the school and Bay City Central High School has an open campus during lunch. Drinks are cheaper there anyway, so what is stopping the students from going there now?
3.) Bottled water, diet pop, and sports drinks aren't nearly as bad for a person as regular pop.
4.) How are students ever going to take responsibility for their own health when decisions are arbitrarily made for them?
5.) What ever happened to free speech and freedom of expression?

I find this decision absolutely disgusting. Why can't the school bring in healthier alternatives? What is stopping the school from stocking the vending machine with healthier alternatives? I just don't get the whole thing.

An amazingly accurate picture of what is currently going on in Venezuela. As a former Center for Latin America and Caribbean Studies student at Michigan State, I fully understand the wider implications for the region. The author is correct. Chavez is pushing the same ideas that have hurt Latin America as a region for the last 30 or more years. What disgusts me most is the fact that the liberal elite - and liberal academia - is lapping this all up when it is fundamentally anti-American and anti-Semetic. I understand the whole idea of standing up for ideals, but how can people so eagerly turn their backs on their own country?

I just don't understand it and never will.

What an evening! I just wrote an incredible poem about Wheaten (who I haven't thought about in a long time, though I did call him up right after Brian and I got engaged)... Not sure if it is my best work, but it definitely was inspired. It just seemed to flow from the keyboard. I love writing when that happens... (Click the link to Writings of A Misguided Blonde to read it!)

Also, I might write a guest entry on procreation, pregnancy, etc. I am psyched, even if I haven't really written what I'd like to say yet. It'll get done over the weekend though; I just hope that I can squeeze in all of my thoughts. My God! I have at least 16 years worth of thoughts and ideas (women with TS will understand why).

Why Isn't The Media Talking About Finding WMD In Iraq?

Brian sent me a couple of links earlier today that reinforce what I've heard over the last few weeks. THERE IS EVIDENCE THAT SADDAM HUSSEIN HAD WMD IN IRAQ SHORTLY BEFORE THE START OF THE CURRENT WAR. In addition, there is evidence linking interests in Iraq to Al Queda.

Now this isn't the first time I've heard that there is new evidence regarding Saddam's WMD programs. It seems as though the evidence is now pouring in, but why haven't we heard this in the mainstream media? In my opinion, it is just the latest example of the liberal bias of the mainstream media in this country. Honestly, there are times I feel as though my views are SERIOUSLY repressed as a young conservative woman (Fox News aside, more on that later).

Stop and think about it: If our educational system is primarily controlled by the liberal left (and I can give you PLENTY of examples to support my statement after 5 years at Michigan State University) and our mainstream media outlets are controlled by the liberal left, how do those who don't agree with every tenet presented in those forums voice their opinions and make sure their message is heard?

For example, I remember having a heated political debate with two guys during my time at Michigan State. Their argument was that I should automatically be a Democrat simply due to the fact that I am a WOMAN. They didn't even stop to consider the fact that while I might not agree with abortion, I support a woman's right to chose. They never stopped to consider that I could identify with a political point of view, a political party, without necessarily agreeing with every aspect of their message. That, in itself, made my sad for the future of our country. It is as if young people can't think for themselves anymore.

There are times in which I wish I could support some liberal positions, but when I do so, all of my views are questioned by people I know who hold extreme liberal views. I am sick and tired of being looked down upon by the liberal left simply due to the fact that I hold primarily conservative views; I received this treatment a lot in academia.

I am tired of having others' views shoved down my throat and being told that I can't think for myself! I wish all of the partisan bickering on both sides would stop. I'd love people to get back to thinking for themselves.

As for Fox News, it is continually attacked by the left as having a conservative slant. Watching programming such as "Hannity and Colmes" and the "O'Reilly Factor," they ALWAYS present both sides of the story, which is more than I could ever say about ABC, NBC, and CBS. If I stop and think about it, the death of the big 3 network stations should give me hope. It simply means that people want the opportunity to make up their minds after viewing BOTH sides of the story.

Peak Oil: Life After the Oil Crash

Not really sure of what to think of this website. It certainly paints a chilling scenario for the rest of my natural life... However, I found a few flaws in the thinking behind the website.

1. It summarily dismisses the development of new sources of energy, along with innovations in technology that would diminish our reliance on oil. I do, however, realize that it is going to take a lot of resources to develop enough new technologies to make a difference. In fact, this is why Bush was pushing the development of new energy technology in his State of the Union speech. He even came to Michigan to pitch a few of his ideas.

2. The author of this website also doesn't take into account the US oil reserve, or tapping into additional resources in Alaska and Canada. I used to work for an oil services company, and I know for a fact that activity in that particular area is growing substantially right now.

While the website certainly gets one thinking about our absolute reliance on oil, and presents it all in a doomsday scenario, I am much more hopeful that humanity will rise to the occasion once again. I don't think that we need to go backwards as a result of our dependence, and I certainly hope that the end of progress is not in sight.

As a recent college grad, I couldn't agree more with this article. Colleges and universities need to do more to make their expectations known. Fortunately, I was prepared well for college, but was very surprised my freshman year to discover the disparity in academic preparedness. In many ways, I felt as though my freshman year was a rehash of my senior year of high school.

As for the idea of using standardized tests in place of college entrance exams, I believe that it is a great idea! Being from Michigan and having attended Michigan State University, it was nice to know that you didn't have to take a separate entrance exam for each university application.

Bride to Be

Bride to Be

An example of what I'd like to do as I begin planning our wedding... Fortunately, I still have a year and a half to go (we haven't even officially told our families yet!)... I guess I am starting to think about the wedding simply do to the fact that things are looking up for Brian and I. His new job is going well, and even if I don't get hired at the same company (which seems pretty likely), a lot of new jobs seem to be opening up finally. If Brian and I can get through close to a year of both of us being unemployed, we can get through anything! Actually, I think we have a much closer, more understanding relationship as a result of everything that has happened to us.

Ah... It looks as though 2005 was truly cursed for us.
